As we find ourselves in our 13th year of Top Corner existence, one thing that is clear to all of us who have known the company for a while is the amount of community that has grown up around the different Top Corner leagues. Teams provide not only an excellent sporting outlet but are a great social glue for groups of people who often would otherwise struggle to keep in touch in our vast capital. Nowhere is this more apparent than amongst the many team homepages that have been created on the Top Corner website.

What can also be said about the team pages is that they come in all shapes and sizes. Although the features available in these pages remain relatively basic (look out for new features currently in the pipeline) There is still a remarkable amount of creativity shown, and clearly quite a bit of work has gone into many of the pages produced.

First up, is JLA Galaxy, with giving their version of the 'azzuri' a la JLA. The squad who, in their own words describe themselves as "The finest football team Turnham Green has ever seen…" have an unsurprisingly strong squad featuring, amongst others, Frank Lampard, The Knightrider car, Carlos Valderama, Jesus of Nazareth and… err… a fridge….

JLA Galaxy (almost as good looking as Cannavaro and Del Pierro...)
and buying Team - surely the smart money would be on the team that have legs?

Next up are the culturally minded Renaissance whose surreal lineup features such luminaries as Leonardo Da Vinci (didn't he play on the wing for Juventus?), Dutch master Rembrandt, The Artist (aka The artist now known again as Prince but formally known as the Artist formally known as Prince, before which he was actually just Prince, although obviously probably not to his close family etc, etc, etc…) Roy 'Keano' Keane and, 'wildcard' Cartman from South Park.

CRA International who have been solid competitors in Southwark leagues for a number of years show a nice touch of self-deprecation in their team page with a bit of 'muppet' thing going on plus Coogan protégé Tony Ferrino and a fair amount of pie consumption (past and present)…. There is further muppet infiltration in the page of the buying Team whose promising effort loses 100 points for their inexcusable inclusion of Keith Harris and Orville (an 80's nightmare) in their ranks. This is slighly compensated by the presence of Sgt Burnside from The Bill (again, many years ago) who is welcome in any midfield, but only SLIGHTLY compensated!

Renaissance, from the cultural hub that is Paddington.

As we've seen, the men's teams' pages are decidedly camera shy and in some pages it appears that they prefer to feature anything BUT themselves. (Ladies' football is no exception either as the IM Galactiquettes have proved by taking it old skool....)

This reaches its logical conclusion with Not@AllStars most surreal of pages that leaves me, well, speechless…! A fine effort but guys, what's with the simian thing? Monkey loving aside, it's time to move on and take a quick look at some of the netball pages….

In terms of style, it has to be said that there is a noticeable difference between the pages produced by netballers, to those from the football teams. Teams seem to use the 'Add my photograph to the team page' feature to ACTUALLY add a picture of themselves! This produces pages with quite a different flavour.

First up, The Dirty Betties are clearly no slouches in the Photoshop stakes and have produced a notable collage of team moments.

Victorious Secrets look to be competing for 'most glamourous team in Top Corner' accolade.

SW11 take a different tack, which in this case seems to be, where possible, show the most embarrassing photo you have to hand.

The Tunrham Queens by contrast have gone for a more typical team shot followed by some nicely moody black and white profile shots, giving their page a touch of style.

Victorious Secrets, Dirty Betties and The Turnham Queens - all actual people.

So, looking to the future… As already mentioned, we are in the process of redeveloping the team pages and we have a number of enhancements planned. As always, we welcome your views on what you think would be worthy additions, so if you have any ideas that by all means drop them to website@topcorner.co.uk. In the meantime, I hope you continue to enjoy the Top Corner experience and of course keep those pages coming!
