2009 Player of the Tournament: Jenny Gater of Millward Brown

For the first time in Top Corner history we hosted a High 5 netball tournament. This was open to ladies only as well as mixed teams, and also to individual players who we put together in to teams!

The roll call for the evening was as follows:

The five teams played each other once and then the runners up of the first stage played the winners. All games were played in two halves of five minutes and at each half, based on the rules of High 5 the teams rotated positions. This meant that all players got to play at every position. Many came up to me during the evening saying how they loved the fast paced nature of the game including being able to play a variety of positions.

Notable were The Individuals who had a hugely successful evening. Having never played together before they had an impressive undefeated first stage! Also prominent were BoS Balls who despite having men on the team who had never played netball before still played really well, with Martin Friel getting Player of the Match (impressive considering he was brand spanking new to the game!). Millward Brown also stood out for me as even though they lost all their games their spirits were high throughout and this showed great sportsmanship. BSN Blitz showed great charisma throughout and played some great game s of netball. Then there was the Spice Girls who were helpful throughout and also played some smashing games of netball. Below are the scores at the end of the group stages:

After the group stages the winners played the runners up: The Individuals Vs Spice Girls. It may have seemed like it was going to be a win for The Individuals as they had been the undefeated champions of the first stage, however, Spice Girls put up a fight and they managed to win 6-2. It was a very exciting game and great to watch!

At the end of each match the umpires chose a player of the match and at the end of the tournament Jenny Gater from Millward Brown was awarded the title of Player of the Tournament by the umpires.

At the end of the evening all silverware was handed out. The evening ran as smoothly as we could have hoped. Everyone seemed to have had a great time and there were many comments about how much fun was had! Many thanks to the umpires who worked so hard but also to all the wonderful teams who played every game in a great spirit. I know I thoroughly enjoyed myself so many thanks!
