17-20
April 2009
Now in its seventh year, the tournament returns to Spain to visit
the stunning city of Valencia. As is traditional, we've gone for a
great European sporting city, and this year there's nowhere hotter!
Valencia could be in line to host the 2009 America's Cup and a formula
one grand prix will take place around its famous harbour. Valencia
CF includes Spanish stars David Villa, Joaquin and David Silva.
Valencia has a totally stunning and compact old town centre, where
gothic and modernist architecture jostle for pride of place in an
area packed with gorgeous buildings, squares, gardens, museums and
charming little streets. From the beautiful Turia Gardens to the huge
city aquarium (the largest in Europe!) down to the white sandy beaches,
and equally as famous for its football as its food, Valencia is renowned
for its wonderful gastronomic culture especially its paella valenciana
which will be your trip's must-eat!
The 2008 event was
enjoyed by numerous firms last year... Norton Rose,
Clifford Chance, K&L Gates, Ashurst, Edwin Coe, Irvings Law, Taylor
Wessing, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Shoosmiths, Linklaters, LEGC, Olswang
and Charles Russell.
The list is still growing
for 2009... Clifford Chance, CMS Cameron McKenna,
Darwin
Rhodes, Edwin Coe, Freshfields, Linklaters, Norton Rose,
PricewaterhouseCoopers and Taylor Wessing.
So far we have seven teams lined up for the men's seven-a-side
football tournament and 4 women's teams for the five-a-side football
tournament. Confirmed we have five teams for the women's netball competition
which will be held indoor next to the football pitches.

overview
Men's
seven-a-side football
Football is a popular sport in Valencia. Its most famous club
is Valencia C.F., who won the Spanish league in 2002 and 2004 (in
which year it also won the UEFA Cup), and was also a UEFA Champions
League runner-up in 2000 and 2001. The Top Corner tournament will
be held at superb pitches with fully qualified referees overseeing
the proceedings. Will Ashurst London be able to defend their
title? Squads are limited to ten players.
Women's five-a-side football
Returning teams will be pleased to know that we already have confirmation
of new squads so you will certainly face some new opposition this
year. Squads are limited to eight players. Defending their title will
be Linklaters FC.
Women's netball
This competition will be played indoor on basketball courts which
will be adapted into netball courts with netball posts from the UK.
It will be officiated by qualified umpires from the UK and balls and
bibs will again be sponsored by Gilberts. Can PricewaterhouseCoopers
retain their crown?
Sports venue
This
year the football pitches and netball courts could not be closer!
They are side by side which means the atmosphere is going to be great!
Please
also remember your footballers will need their shin pads as you cannot
take to the pitch without them. Also please note that studs and moulded
boots are not allowed. Acceptable footwear for the football tournament
are astroturf boots and trainers.

Football
fans
Valencia Football Club have a match against Sevilla
in La Liga which is scheduled for the 19th April. It is currently
rather tricky to source tickets, and when you find some they can be
pricey. These two teams are currently in the top half of the table
and it would be a great match so why not combine your visit with a
visit to see the match. Please note that due to La Liga scheduling,
the fixture date can only be confirmed in the weeks before the event.
